And what's the deal with the old guard lately???

First Maiden goes on tour with the Powerslave regimen...

Overkill puts out their best album ever, so does Fear Factory...

Testament, Kreator and some I'm forgetting no doubt...

And Machine Head puts out one of the best albums in metal history!!!

It's definitely a good time to be a metal-head... I'm loving it!!!

History lesson from one who lived through it. The phrase "Heavy Metal" was first coined by John Kay of Stephenwolf in 1967 in the song "Born to be Wild" - "Heavy metal thunder. Racing with the wind and the feeling that I'm under" in reference to motorcycle riding. Share that with your metal head friends when there is a lull in the conversation. IMO Stephenwolf was the greatest band of all time.

I'm more of a newer metal head. I respect the guys who laid the groundwork but I'm more into the new metal. ie: HELLYEAH, Stone Sour, Slipknot, Five Finger Death Punch, Mudvayne, Trivium, etc. Just to name a few. And who can forget Pantera!

Hey guys, first post on the new board (I posted a few times on the previous incarnation). Metal is a subject near and dear to my heart. I like to mix up old an new bands. So far this summer I have been to the Mastodon/Between the Buried and Me/Baroness/Valient Thorr show in Lexington, Clutch, and Iron Maiden in Chicago two weeks ago. I've also got tickets to Black Label Society with Clutch and Children of Bodom in Louisville this October followed exactly one week later by Slayer/Megadeth/Anthrax at Freedom Hall... It's definitely a good time to be a metalhead. My favorite band at the moment is Mastodon, but that is a fluid position and subject to constant change :)
